Environmentally friendly Fresh & Easy neighborhood markets open five locations in Las Vegas
Personally, I’ve always believed that super centers like Wal-Mart have gotten a raw deal in the public eye. They may be impersonal and sterile, but they’re convenient, that’s for sure. That being said, I’ve certainly noticed the picketers outside its multiple grocery stores.
But for those of you who demand a more conscientious corporation, five new Fresh & Easy neighborhood markets made their debut across the Las Vegas valley today.
The company touts itself as a neighborhood market and has taken several innovative steps to ensure its buildings are green in addition to providing fresh, high quality products.
The company strives to include several LEED certified initiatives such as LED lighting to reduce energy use, skylights and lights the automatically dim depending on natural light levels, special parking places for hybrid cars, in-store recycling and other features.
Delivery trucks were also designed to have significantly lower noise and will only make deliveries during designated times as a consideration to neighborhoods.
According to its Web site, the company donates $1,000 to local charities every time it opens a new store. 15 Fresh & Easy stores have opened or are planned for Las Vegas.
The stores will be smaller than the mega markets typically found around the valley, but will focus on providing low-priced, high-quality foods and friendly customer service.
I’m generally not too picky about where my food comes from, but I’m finding myself very excited about these new markets. It’s not often that a company offers quality products while being so adamantly community and environmentally conscientious.
