Guardian Angels to patrol Downtown Las Vegas
Criminals beware, there is a new posse in town. The Guardian Angels, made famous for helping to clean up the New York streets, have opened a local chapter in Sin City. They plan on patrolling the area around the Fremont Street Experience, frequented by the homeless, and known as an area to get drugs and prostitutes.
Founded in 1978 by Curtis Sliwa, the Guardian Angels are today a worldwide organization. Over the past three decades, Curtis Sliwa's programs and initiatives have been recognized by Presidents and Prime Ministers, Governors, Senators and Mayors, as well as by leading businessmen, veterans groups and many other associations.
So will Las Vegans welcome these guardians of the night? Mayor Oscar Goodman was quoted in the Las Vegas Review Journal as saying "The Guardian Angels are certainly just another resource to be the eyes and ears to any impropriety. I welcome them to the community."
They are a highly visible crime deterrent, with their flashy red berets, and group patrolling tactics. With 27 years of experience, they know what works and what does not. In order to realize the revitalization of the Downtown area, certain pockets of crime will need to be eliminated. This may be just what the city needs.

I think this will be a great opportunity for Las Vegas to have the Guardian Angels patrolling the crime infested areas. They have helped to make communities a better and safer place and do it with great risk. Communities should welcome this opportunity to make a difference and become part of the solution.
