Internet changing politics as usual

We’ve all felt the effects of Internet technology in our lives — online banking, online shopping and electronic dating services.

But perhaps no segment is embracing the Web as wholeheartedly as are politicians and political campaign organizers.

The New York Times posted a great article, Politics Faces Sweeping Change via the Web, last week.

Certainly we’ve seen this trend in Las Vegas. Consider how Jon Ralston used to rely completely on email to share his political commentary. Now that’s supplemented with is own blog, Vegas Pundit.

And consider the Web sites now available for the upcoming local elections. There are too many to name here, nor would we want to be accused of endorsing any specific candidate.

Needless to say, the Internet — complete with Web sites, blogs, RSS feeds and podcasts — carries a strong punch. And it’s not going away any time soon.
