Man involved in Las Vegas police shooting recovering in hospital

A 20-year-old man was involved in a police shooting at the Home Depot center at Tropicana and Decatur. The incident occurred Monday morning when the officer questioned, Kerry Purnell for suspicious activity.

After the officer patted Purnell down, the suspect broke free and ran on foot. After running a few feet, Purnell turned a gun on the officer and started firing. The officer was unharmed and returned fire, hitting Purnell on the calf.

Although he tried to hide in a dumpster, police dogs were called in to track him.

Purnell is recovering from the gunshot wound and will be charged with attempted murder of a police officer, resisting arrest and carrying a concealed weapon.

The officer is on paid administrative leave pending an investigation.
