Nevada leads as homeless state
According to the National Alliance to End Homelessness, the number of Nevadans who are homeless is 0.68 percent. That number tops the list among U.S. states and is more than double the national average.
Let’s hope the Silver State isn’t dubbed the Panhandler State.
Contributing factors seem to be the idea of finding luck, expensive housing and the Vegas-themed $1.99 meal (although this seems to be completely old-school).
Down-on-your-luck folks may think if they can make it anywhere, they can make it in Vegas. And not everyone who moves to Vegas finds their pot 'o gold—that’s one reason for the high number of move-outs each month.
A side note: we hear a lot about the number of move-ins, but what about the move-outs? Oh wait, maybe they don’t move out, they just become homeless.
At any rate, there are many very good organizations that serve as both voice and helping hands for our seemingly growing homeless population. Let’s all give them a hand by being generous and addressing the issues we face as a community.
