OJ Simpson named suspect in Las Vegas robbery
Orenthal. James. Simpson.
The Juice was officially named as a suspect in the allegedly armed robbery at Palace Station on Friday.
Several weeks ago, auction house owner Tom Riccio was contacted by collectors who said they wanted to sell some Simpson memorabilia, including personal items such as footballs, awards and photos. Riccio then informed Simpson about the sellers and was told that the items were stolen. He arranged a meeting between the sellers and Simpson, who would identify the items and request that they were returned or the authorities would be alerted. That was the plan.
However, that all went out the window when Simpson arrived with several men from a wedding he was attending in town. According to Riccio, Simpson and his companions then took the items and left the room. One of the men in the room, Alfred Beardsley, a real-estate agent and long-time Simpson memorabilia collector, claimed that at least one man in Simpson's group brandished a gun. Bruce Fromong, another collector of Simpson memorabilia and Simpson's former friend, was also in the room at the time of the incident.
"Him and some of his guys come busting through the door,” he told the celebrity gossip site TMZ.com. “They came in with guns, hollering and screaming.”
“It’s stolen stuff that’s mine. Nobody was roughed up,” Simpson told the AP. He denied that guns were involved and was released with his associates after being questioned by police. The police have confirmed that no weapons have been recovered.
Thursday, "If I Did It: The Confessions of the Killer," was published by murder victim Ron Goldman's family. Although Simpson wrote the book, which was originally titled "If I Did It," a federal bankruptcy judge awarded the rights to the Goldman family. The book is an account of how Simpson would actually have committed the murders of Ron Goldman and ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson had he done it.
Perhaps in a couple of years The Juice will slake our curiosity and write "If I Did it: Las Vegas Shakedown."
